    This past month, the board of The Welcome Project was busy selecting new members. To shed some light on the process as well as the general functions of the board, we talked to TWP board president, Cesar Urrunaga. Cesar emphasized that there was nothing like The Welcome Project for his parents to help orient them to the US system. This partially fuels Cesar’s commitment to TWP and the immigrant community of Somerville.

    The Welcome Project celebrated Hispanic heritage month in October by hosting Latin Night, an evening of art and civic engagement. The night’s highlight was when Felix Arroyo, Register of Suffolk Probate and Family court, gave a talk about what it means to him to celebrate Hispanic heritage month.

    On Thursday, November 10th, 2016 members of The Welcome Project, Union United, and other community members presented the need for a Community Benefit Agreements (CBA) to the City of Somerville Board of Alderman. In a packed community room, about twenty community members stepped up to speak over the course of two and a half hours about the reasons why a CBA is important for the City of Somerville and the developer, US2, to recognize before approving zoning for the redevelopment of Union Square.
